The Golden Bird

Once upon a time there lived a king who had a beautiful garden. In the garden was a tree that bore golden apples. The apples were always counted. When the apples began to ripen, one of them was found missing. The king became sad at this. He ordered that a gardener should watch all night, so that, apples arenot stolen from the tree. The gardener put his eldest son to watch the garden. At about twelve in the night hefell asleep. In the morning another apple was missing.Then the second son was ordered to watch. At midnight he too fell asleep, and in the morning another apple was gone. Then the third son offered to keep watch. At first the gardener was hesitant. However, the father was assured of help and he permitted his young son to watch the garden during the night hours. As the clock struck twelve he heard a noise in the air. A bird came flying in the garden. Its feathers were of pure gold. It pecked one apple with its beak. The gardener's son woke up and shot an arrow at it. The arrow hit the bird and a golden feather dropped   from its tail. The bird then flew away. The golden feather was brought to the king in the morning. All the ministers were called together. On seeing the feather, the king said, 'one feather is of no use to me, I must have the whole bird.’Then the gardener's eldest son set out to find the golden bird.Walking some distance, he came to a forest. In the forest he saw a fox. He took his bow and was ready to shoot at it. The fox said, 'Do not shoot me, for I will give you good counsel; I know you want to find the golden bird.  You go to next village and there, you will see two.....................................
