Prime Minister Gladstone Plays Horse

Sham S. Misri

William Ewart Gladstone was born on December 29, 1809 in Liverpool, and served four times as prime minister of England. Gladstone was renowned for his intellect and his oratory. He was Queen Victoria's prime minister.  He had married Catherine Glynne in 1839, and had eight children. Gladstone liked physical fitness, and one of his hobbies was felling large trees with an axe.
There is a funny story about this great Prime minister. One day, a very important person came to see Gladstone. This person was informed by some of his attendants that the prime minister was busy and had to wait.  The man waited for more than an hour, and still there was no message.  Finally, the man opened the door because he wanted to see what the prime minister was doing.  He then saw that the prime minister had become a horse and his grandchild was driving him.  That was an enjoyment.  He was the prime minister, but he had become the horse of his grandson.  Gladstone found himself in failing health and resigned his final term as prime minister at the age of 85. He died in 1898, at the age of 89.
